[Que Crawl/Purple Truck] was mentioned in another thread (on boudin
balls) recently but after getting an order to go on my way home Saturday
night I think it deserves its own thread. It's great BBQ and more served
outside Tipitina's when there's live music, starting around 10:30 or so.
I had the ribs on one of the cooks' recommendation and they were amazing
... not fatty, great sauce, just the right amount of smokiness. Had to
fight the urge to eat them all at once and have nothing leftover for
next day lunch. There was an article on them a few weeks back in the
T-P.

CURB YOUR APPETITE
As in 'move it
to the curb' because eating from Nathaniel Zimet's mobile restaurant
is like no other sidewalk dining in the city.

It was 10 p.m., Aug.
28, steamy, still, a seemingly typical late-summer New Orleans night.
Actor/rapper Mos Def was scheduled to appear at a benefit concert at
Tipitina's nightclub. There was a line at the door. As usual the Que
Crawl, a purple panel truck converted into a food wagon stood at the
curb. A rectangle of welcoming light and savory smells poured from its
side service door.

"Located on the corner of Tchoupitoulas Street and Napoleon
Avenue, just outside of Tipitina's, a popular live music club, this
K&B purple truck serves weekend music lovers long into the night,"
Cowin says. "Chef and owner Nathanial Zimet offers classic barbecue
and creative Cajun sides, including ribs, pulled pork, po' boys and
duck gumbo along with grits fries and fried boudin balls, homemade
from the traditional Cajun sausage." 504-232-9344

A big purple truck serves some of the city's best barbecue after
midnight
By Ian McNulty
After a day at Jazz Fest, you might just decide you've had
enough of eating delicious food off paper plates, standing on your
feet and juggling a drink and a plastic fork. But Jazz Fest ends at
7 p.m., and if you keep the party rolling for a few more hours you
might just change your mind.
That's when you're most likely to fall victim to the carnival midway
come-ons of Will Jenkins, the impresario, money-handler and general
wise guy working the window of Que Crawl, the catering truck that
serves as a mobile showcase for the barbecue and inventive Southern
cooking of his friend Nathanial Zimet. The truck is painted K&B
purple and can be found right outside the doors of Tipitina's late
at night Thursdays through Saturdays and on Sunday afternoons.
"So good, you'll crawl for it," Jenkins screams out the truck's
window, jacked up on coffee at the beginning of what will be a long
night.

On Que
No matter what's cooking on the stage at
Tipitina's, there has
lately been a new late-night street food option just outside its
doors that is smoking. The Que
Crawl is a purple catering truck operated by Nathaniel
Zimet, who turns out worthy barbecue and other eats until the wee
hours at the corner of Napoleon Avenue and Tchoupitoulas Street. The
menu changes constantly but some mainstays include ribs, pulled pork
sandwiches, nachos, sausage po-boys and a wonderfully dark andouille
and duck gumbo. Offbeat items like fish and papaya egg rolls
sometimes show up, but the reliable show-stopper is a $2 order of
grit fries, which delivers deep-fried planks of cheese grits with
barbecue seasoning. Catch them Thursday through Saturday from 10:30
p.m. or so until the Tipitina's crowd clears out and starting at 6
p.m. on Sundays for the club's weekly Cajun dance party. Que Crawl
also provides on-site catering.
